Wine Summit 2009: 150 top wine specialitsts from 38 countries

Austria's Wines Captivate the World

(ÖWM, June 2009) - The Austrian wine sector stood for one thing during the second weekend in June: the Wine-Summit 2009.

Every two years, more than 150 distinguished specialists in the international wine sector are invited to Austria by the Austrian Wine Marketing organisation in order to discover - through intensive guided tours - the latest developments in this country's red and white wine growing areas. This year's Wine Summit journeys focused on charactistic regional wine styles and emphasised Austria's role as a high-quality wine country with culture, tradition and exciting cuisine.

In June, 120 participating wine journalists had been able to choose between three different journeys: "The Many Faces of Niederösterreich" and "The Steiermark, Austria's Hidden Gem", for those who could deepen their already-established knowledge of Austrian wine; and "Discover Wine Wonderland Austria", devised specifically for wine professionals visiting Austria's wine-growing areas for the first time.

In April, the first-ever German language tour took place with 33 Swiss and German journalists participating; this trip, through Burgenland, was conducted also in connection with tourism because of the Haydn Year 2009 celebrations.

During the Wine Summit journeys, the international guests were captivated not only by Austria's wines, but also by this country's unqiuely beautiful wine landscape and, of course, authentic Austrian hospitality.

For wine lovers, save the date: VieVinum, May 29th - 31st, 2010.
